The Road to Hana
It's not about the destination, it's
about the journey. 52 miles of winding, 1-lane road with a yellow
line down the middle, much of it on the edge of 400 ft. cliffs. 10 mph
speed limit that seems much too fast in some places. Great fun, right?
You betcha!
Here is the ancient rainforest... the mysterious heart of Maui. Exotic
fruits, flowers and foliage, trails through the jungle, and, yes, spectacular
waterfalls. Stop at every pullover and explore. Fill your camera with
Nat'l Geo style photos... hard to take a bad pic here. It's a different
world from your Mai Tai plentiful beach resort.
Fill up the gas tank and start early so you can absorb as much as possible
and still get home before dark.
And if you don't want to brave that narrow
road and speedy local drivers on your tail, there are several tour companies
that will let you enjoy the very best views in air-conditioned comfort.

Here are some of Maui's favorite courses. For the complete listing, go to Maui Course Reviews.
The Dunes at Maui Lani
1333 Maui Lani., Kahului
Maui's newest course and already one of our must-plays! This interesting test of golf offers spectacular mountain and valley views of West Maui Mountains and Halelakala Volcano. The first couple of holes and the final ones are on the open plains exposed to the 15-25 mph tradewinds, but most are in the sandy dunes forest. These are some of the most interesting golfing holes in Hawaii.
This popular links course offers lots of options to the player as it has lots of pot bunkers in key positions on each hole and around the greens, giving it a "Scottish feel" without the chill.
You'll enjoy this challenging new course and the reasonable rates. The Dunes also offers one of Maui's best target practice facilities with large greens

Kapalua
Plantation Course
300 Kapalua Drive,
Kapalua
This is probably
the toughest and most spectacular golf course on Maui. It has
the widest fairways and largest greens but plays tight due to the
elevation changes and strong trades that challenge you on every
hole. Bring extras as the waist high rough eats golf balls.
Try to play with a partner experienced at Kapalua as local knowledge
is a must to score well here. (The par 73 should be 83 even for pros
playing the first time!) Remember to play safe whenever possible
as most short and wild shots turn into lost balls.
The Mercedes Championship is played here in January with the opening of the PGA Tour season when
the best in the world come to challenge one of Maui's best courses.
18-holes - par 73 - 7411-yards.
