Waimea Canyon
The Grand Canyon of the Pacific

Waimea Canyon is approximately 10 miles long and up to 3,000 feet deep, located on the western side of Kauai. Dubbed the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" by Mark Twain, it was formed by a deep incision of the Waimea River arising from the extreme rainfall on the island's central peak, Mount Wai'ale'ale, which is among the wettest places on earth.
Waimea Canyon State Park encompasses 1,866 acres and provides a wilderness area with numerous hiking trails for beginners and seasoned hikers. You can pick up trail maps at the Ranger's Station, located at the Kokee Museum..
Kauai Cave Wolf Spider
The Kaua‘i Cave Wolf Spider,
is only known to occur in a few caves in a 10 mile lava flow in the Koloa-Poipu region of Kauai, and only six populations are known to exist. One of the largest caves is
located along the second fairway at the Kiahuna Golf Club. Partnering with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the club has developed a sanctuary to protect this endangered species. This sanctuary has been landscaped with rare,
Native Hawaiian plants.
While their nearest surface-dwelling relatives have large eyes, this species has completely lost its eyes. They reach a body length of about 20mm (the size of a 50 cent piece), are reddish brown
and completely harmless to people. For more arachnophillic data, see Kauai Cave Arthropods

Horseback Riding

Riding the rolling hills on Kauai is a wonderful experience. The Princeville Ranch offers a ride to a private waterfall.
In the shadow of the Hanalei mountains, you cross open green pastures to reach several overlooks of the vast blue Pacific and Anini Reef, the largest reef in Hawaii. The you're off to your destination, a private waterfall lunch area at Kalihiwai Valley.
A really nice ride.
